Is US Military Maintenance a non-profit?
US Military Maintenance Northeast Ohio, LLC (just call us USMM) is a for-profit business with a double bottom line. We are a Social Enterprise with the dual goals of being profitable and doing good in the world. We put Veterans to work in an effort to make an impact on the lives of those who often face pitfalls as they try to re-assimilate into our society.
What is a Social Enterprise?
The Social Enterprise Alliance defines as Social Enterprise as “an organization or initiative that marries the social mission of a non-profit or government program with the market-driven approach of a business.” USMM has the heart of a non-profit in that we have a strong social mission – putting Veterans to work – while operating within the competitive landscape as a for-profit business.
What kinds of cleaning does USMM do?
USMM contracts with local businesses to provide recurring cleaning of their spaces. We work with professional offices, medical practices, schools, manufacturers and other businesses that find it important to maintain their cleanliness and present a positive image to their clients and their staffs. In addition to cleaning, USMM offers facility maintenance services for our business clients. USMM also cleans windows for both residential and commercial clients.
Does USMM hire only Veterans?
We offer hiring preference to honorably discharged Veterans and their family members, however, anyone willing to work may apply to work with USMM.
What obstacles does USMM face in putting Veterans to work?
Our biggest obstacle is getting work. The more work we can get, the more work we can provide for Veterans. When people hire USMM, they are making a direct impact on Veteran unemployment.
Why help Veterans; aren’t there other folks who need help too?
Certainly, there are many people in society who need assistance, but helping Veterans specifically is a special cause to George McDonnell. A Veteran himself, George feels honored to have served alongside America’s finest men and women. It is now his opportunity to reach into that group of patriots and give back to those who have selflessly served our country and sacrificed so much.
Does USMM do anything else for Veterans?
USMM hires, trains, and mentors Veterans in hopes that they will find it easier to work within society. In addition, USMM donates 5% of all revenue to Patriotic Hearts, a 501 c(3) non-profit with the mission to create effective economic stability and enhancement programs for service members, Veterans, and their families.
Why is your website called VetsDoWindows.com?
Our business name is US Military Maintenance Northeast Ohio but that name is just not web-friendly. Our old domain name was hard to remember, and “maintenance” is a tricky word for a lot of people to spell correctly. VetsDoWindows.com is catchy and easy to remember – even for a person who is driving and hears our URL on the radio. We feel too that window cleaning can be a gateway to other business for us.
